Mileage in 2007
Ø      The County Highway System is composed of 85,109 miles. (75% of the State’s roadway network)
Ø      17,950 miles are on the Counties’ Major and Minor Collector System.
Ø      Counties maintain 4,361 miles of city streets within 437 cities.
Ø      Daily Vehicle Miles Traveled, DVMT, (Usage) totaled approx. 13,600,000 miles on the county highway system.  Ø      2,522 railroad crossings on the County Highway System.

Bridges in 2007
Ø      Oklahoma has the 3^rd highest percentage of deficient
    bridges in the nation because of poor county bridges.
Ø      14,176 county bridges. (62% of all Oklahoma’s bridges)
Ø      4,460 (32%) are deficient & 664 are obsolete (4.5%) 
     (1.6 billion replacement costs)
Ø      64 county bridges over 500 feet in length.

Accidents, reported in 2003    
Ø      5,504 crashes on county roads.  (7.4% of the total number of crashes)
Ø      1,951 crashes involved unsafe speeds on county roads.  (21% of the total number of unsafe speed crashes)
Ø      682 rollover crashes on county roads.  (34.7% of the total number of rollover crashes)
Ø      26 train crashes. (44.8% of the total number of train crashes) 101 fatal crashes on county roads. (16.9%
     of the total number of fatal crashes)

Funding in 2007
Ø      Federal Bridge Replacement, BR, funds for county bridges, 20 million/year.
     (2.8 of the 20 million funds the Safety Bridge Inspection program in odd numbered years)
    §         5 million/year of County funds to match federal BR construction funds.
    §         1.5 million/year of County funds to pay for engineering fees. 
Ø      Federal Surface Transportation Program, STP, funds, 6 million/year.
   §         $1.5 million/year of County funds to match federal STP construction funds.
   §         $412,000/year of County funds to pay for engineering fees.  At current funding levels 
         it would take  56 years to bring all current inadequate county bridges to an adequate level.
